Allegheny County was created out of Westmoreland

1796

Pitt Township was area north of the Ohio River was divided into Pine and Deer Townships 

1800

Allegheny County reduced to present size

1829

Tarentum was laid out - Shortly after Millerstown was laid out

1830

Natrona (East Tarentum) was laid out

June 2, 1836

Petition came before the Court of Common Picas requesting division of Deer Township creating East Deer and West Deer

March 28, 1858

By decree of court Fawn Township was erected. At this time included Harrison Township and Borough of Brackenridge.

1863   

Harrison Township was formed from Fawn Township

February 1877 to July 1879 

Fawn Township Post Office existed

March 29, 1948

Fawn Township Volunteer Fire Deparmcnt started

May 4, 1948

Fawn Township Auxiliary was organized

1949

Fawn Township Volunteer Fire Department #1 purchased 13.22 acres located between Route 908 and Lardintown Road, Millerstown area from Elma Mae and Mariette R. Marks of Gibsonia

February 8, 1950

Fawn Township Volunteer Department #2 started- shortly after Ladies auxiliary was formed

December 1, 1956

Fawn Township Volunteer Dcpanment #2 acquired property on Ridge Road of 10 acres from Glenn H. and Effie Pringle. The old Blessed Sacrcment church building was purchased and tom down and moved piece by piece to the property and rebuilt on a new foundation to become the recreation building.

1971

 Township entered into an agreement Conning the Fawn-Frazier Water Authority

January 1981 

Fawn Township Fire Department #2 the new 4 bay fire hall on Ridge Road was completed. The old building and property on Bunner and Ridge Roads was turned over to the Township of Fawn to be used for recreational purposes as specified in original deed from the Donnell family.

FACTS OF INTEREST

  • "Fawn" Township was named because its founders considered it to be an "offspring of its parent municipality" - Deer Township
  • Fawn Township was ample hunting ground for the American Indian. Bull Creek derives from "Cowawanick" ing "place of the bulls" in reference to the once great Buffalo herds that dwelt in the Allegheny Valley. Bull Creek is the principal tributary in township which is also fed by Little Bull Creek.
  • Howes Run Road used to be called Van Thiel Hollow Road
  • The initial property for the Fawn Township Volunteer Department #2 was donated by Homer and Jessie DoMell at the comer of Ridge and Burtner Road.
